Leadership Institute (Summer 10th Annual) Speaker Dr. Richard A Villa. www.VaVillabayridge.com

Dr. Villa main focus was on five different part of Restructing & caring& effective education: The possible futures of Educations. The first was is destination in education and making a list of possible if ways to help the student in education for example to help student fit in culture, good work ethics and many more that was listed by people in audience. Then from there is about who has been invited on the journey. Through out the lecture Dr. Villa focus was on the disadvantages and advances of varies points of view he had listed to help the students in education. Last was how would get to a point of equalence in education. The main points of that is vision, skills, incentive, resources, action plan, and change and when one of these are left out the equalence will not work in education. Dr Villa final point is how do we know if we have arrive? From this the audience made a list of the following: by the culture, cultue of caring, character counts, culture of collabration.

1. If we do reach our arrival, then what?

I think we can improve on the way we have made our arrival. There is always room to make improvement. Just because we have arrived with equalence does not mean we can do better. With education is always changing, so there are improvements to be made. Just like Dr. Villa points out that the culture is what make the equalence work.

2. What are the way in destination in education main points?

They are the following help the student fit in a culture, have good work ethics, help the student fulfill their dreams, positive esteem, eager to learn, well rounded in a work environment. If we can help a student achieve this then we have a done our part to help a student out.

The New Gold Rush: Establishing Effective Online Learning Policies
Learning & Leading with Technology, September/October 2007, Pg13-16

The online learning has grown very rapidly in both a bad and a good way. The online learning is to give a student the potential of delivering education any time and anywhere. However, the down side of this is a way to replace the traditional of education in a classroom setting. To make sure this does not happen is to have both face to face and online learning in the classroom. Just like in the program of the Laguna Department of Education partner for Success in New Mexico are appealing to have this part of there educational system. Within the article there is a rubric of how this would work.

1. Does Online-learning hurt the classroom setting?

I do not think so, because you are still learning the subject that you are taking. You can take you time when doing the assignments and if you have any question you still can ask by the teacher or the students.

2. Does online learning help the students?

I think not because for me I learn better face to face then online. I think the student would be lazy and wait for the last minute to do any of the assignments. Plus you do not have that quality time with the teacher. Face to face is great way to make a good impression

Educational Crowdsourcing: Learning & leading with Technology Nov 07

What is crowdsourcing? According to the article it is to a process that draws on the talents of a diverse group to accomplish a task or goal. In a way it is an outside source that is helping, but not really. What is meet by this is by using the crowdsourcing to a task or problem to a crowds. Most of the company do use the crowdsourcing if it benefits them. The is now more commen to have the crowdsourcing to be use in the educational setting. More and more academic researching is using this form.

1. How would crowdsourcing be useful in educational setting?

I think that by having the outside sources helping the educational system improve varies activities or programs. To get the outside source to give ideas of what can improve or not improve. Plus it is not a bias opinion if someone outside educational setting. The person would not have an advantage of being negative to one program to another.

2. Who would be the diverse group that would be part of crowdsourcing?

I think no matter what the group it is, it would give helpful ideas. If the educational system does need an opinion on a certain program. It is best get if from people of varies diverse group.

Journal #1

The first article is mainly about web base applications that you can use outside the classroom setting. It is a way to make your blog page look great. This also give the teacher the web application to make their work more appealing to the students. The article also gives resources that you can use to improve the web base applications. The way students can learn to use the web base applications is by making a blog that would involve them all. The second part of the article is about blogging. The idea of blogging for a class is great if is used correctly. The one way is to use the idea of blogging is by having a weekly or daily journals from the students. Also the teacher could load lesson for the class along with samples of the what the work should look like. This is a way to increase the students use of technology and programs.

1. With web base applications always changing, how would the teacher be able to keep up with technology?

I think for a teacher is essential for them to know what new applications they can use in the classroom. This way they could be ahead of the students. It would depend on what grade you are teaching to know what new technology is out there for the grade they are teaching. For a teacher to not know applications or programs, it would be kind of hard to teach that class, plus I think it would look bad for a student to know more then the teacher.

2. With technology in the schools, can blogging hurt the teacher or students?

I think no, because it is a way to communicate outside the classroom. Just for example when a teacher is out, they could have the lesson plan on the blog and the students would not miss any learning. Plus it is a way to help out any student who has a problem. Then the other student could help with the problem.

Journal # 2: The Laptops are coming

This story was interesting in that from teachers’ point of view of having computers for her students. Thinking that the computers will improve the students in their studies. The teacher would go and learn what the school has in mind when giving the students the laptops. The teacher was at first thrilled that her students would get computers. However, as time goes on, it turns out not the way the teacher thought it would be like. The teacher would be on the computer most of the time and losing the one on one with the student. Plus as time when on in the classroom more of the students would be into the computers and not having any conversations with each other. The teacher noticed this when they were having a party and it was quite. The reason was that the students were into the computer then to socialize with each other.

What were the disadvantages of having computers for all the students in the classroom?

There were several problems with the having computers. First was the student lost the socialization they once had before the computers. Also not all of the students had internet at the home, so even they could do online work they could not. The teacher had lost the one on one with the student.

Should they provide computers to all the students?

I thinking no, because some of the students would not have the knowledge they would need once they get the computers. The teachers would have to take time to show the students how to use the computers. However, there could students who could already know how to use the computers and get bored with the lesson. I think the school should not give computers to every student, but have computer laps that all the students can learn at the same pace.
